Some stories begin with a spark. Megan and Sergei’s started with a blueprint. Megan was hired to design Sergei’s cabin, and somewhere between floor plans and site visits, something shifted. What began as a working relationship slowly unfolded into something deeper. With time, that connection turned into a love that’s grown to include a home, a marriage, and a little boy they now get to call their own.

The day started at their home just outside Edmonton, a space they designed and built together. Upstairs, Megan and her bridesmaids were getting ready in the soft morning light while downstairs, Sergei and the guys filled the basement with music and laughter. From there, we made our way to the University of Alberta Botanic Garden, where they held their traditional Orthodox Russian ceremony. It was our first time documenting this kind of ceremony—deeply symbolic, rich in tradition, and incredibly moving to witness.

After the quiet reverence of the ceremony, the energy shifted. Their reception at the JW Marriott Edmonton ICE District was anything but ordinary. Between heartfelt speeches, a high-energy live band, and silk performers suspended from the ceiling, the room came alive. Every part of the night felt designed with intention and joy.

This day was full of contrast in the best way—sacred and bold, grounded and electric. Megan and Sergei didn’t just plan a wedding. They created a day that felt like their real life. Beautiful, full, and shared. A true reflection of what it means to do life together.
